INSPIRING THE NEXT GENERATION BY PROMOTING THE ARTS IN OUR SCHOOLS

Bringing World-Class Musical Arts to All Communities In San Diego

Their productions, programs and passion enhance the vitality and deepen the cultural life of San Diego residents. Every year, they have successfully presented and produced a dynamic range of performing arts for an increasingly diverse community.

“The Community Music Center Education Program filled a void in our schools, and it’s so important to have this opportunity. Many of these children and families would never have had a chance to be part of a music program.”

Sara King
Former School Administrator in San Diego County

Their vision touches all neighborhoods, including those that are less affluent and families who would miss out on the experience of music if it weren’t for the Society and its community programs.

The La Jolla Music Society’s Community Music Center is a special after-school music program in South San Diego for children who would wouldn’t find the same opportunity in their local schools. The 30-week program provides a safe environment for creativity and music making to more than 2,500 students annually. The children receive their instrument of choice for free and have access to bilingual music instruction, which boosts their music skills, increases their self-confidence and motivates them to succeed. When they complete their program, they’re awarded their instrument to keep for life.

Bringing Community Together

Through corporate donations to the La Jolla Music Society, we’re able to support their education programs, which bring unmatched access to music and learning opportunities to more than 11,000 students and community members each year throughout San Diego communities. We also proudly serve on their board and are pleased to be part of their efforts to expose families to music, especially in underserved areas.

“Every school-age child starting in elementary should have the opportunity to experience the power and beauty of music, both hearing it and playing an instrument,” says Stephen Gamp, Banc of California Branch Manager in La Jolla. “The Education Program of the La Jolla Music Society brings music to the children and parents in our less affluent communities. The children learn how to play an instrument, perform in recitals for their families and attend live performances. This is a unique experience the La Jolla Music Society provides free to the community.”

Providing Opportunities for Children to Experience the Best California Has to Offer

Banc of California recognizes the Society’s ongoing commitment to bring music to all neighborhoods in our community, regardless of socioeconomic status, and we proudly support their cause and efforts. Since 1999, La Jolla Music Society, through its Community Music Center, has put forth a comprehensive community outreach effort to bring music education and performance opportunities to at-risk elementary school children in Southeast San Diego.

The Community Music Center was recognized for its work by the President’s Committee on Arts and Humanities for reaching out to a new generation in an underserved community.
